Formaldehyde is classified as a Hazardous Air Pollutant (HAP) by the EPA, and is considered a known human carcinogen. While there are strict workplace exposure limits established by NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health), there are currently no such exposure regulations for homes.
